Accepted to American University

Jeremy rarely gets his own post. He has earned it today. He received a nice, big, thick envelope from American University nicely placed between the front door and the storm door. We are relieved to have this part of our moving process checked off. He is still in his language class for Malay here, but we had chosen to come to Washington, D.C. over Monterey, CA, to do this. We did this because we were offered a back-to-back language and Master's here. This is pretty rare. Usually a Master's is done separately, 3-6 years after the language. The personal advantage for us was that it cut out a move later...largely important for our kids. Therefore, we are happy that we've been "accepted" to do the other half of what we moved here to do. By the way, we are also happy that the government pays for all of this! (No comments about this from all you tax payers, and believe us, we pay enough of our own!)

Back to Jeremy, we are thrilled also that the acceptance letter stated that they "received a record number of applications for a highly selective class" and that he still made it in. Jeremy will be attending the School of International Service. His letter also stated that this school (SIS) is "the largest and most-applied-to school of international relations in the United States." His degree will be in Southeast Asian Area Studies. He will start in August and expects to attend for three semesters.
