Allison's 1st year of Viola

Allison came home from one of the first weeks of school all excited about joining the school orchestra. She wanted to play the viola and gave us some great reasons why. One reason was because the cello and bass were too big. The other was because the violin plays notes faster. So, we let her, and she's enjoyed it enough that she chose to continue it over starting piano lessons. The video here is of her favorite song from this year, "War Dance." It's a little out of tune because the teacher tunes all the instruments for the students before they play. Maybe we'll learn how to do that next year?

As a violist I fully support her decision. Rock on, girl! The viola is the best instrument. The parts are easier, the tone is prettier, and it's not too big to heft around (which was the decision breaker for me between viola and cello ... I love cello). The only downside is learning a crazy new clef and that sometimes it can take awhile before those strains sound sweet :) but they will.
