Our first stop was at Reading Terminal Market in downtown Philadelphia. It's a fun indoor market full of all kinds of fresh foods, flowers, spices, eateries, etc. etc.
Next, we toured Betsy Ross' house:
Then, we visited Christ Church. This photo is of the girls sitting in George Washington's pew. They also sat in Benjamin Franklin and Betsy Ross' pews. The girls asked lots of intelligent questions to one of the guides, but also "discussed" details from the movie "National Treasure."
We ended the night eating some great food at Ted's Montana Grill and burning some energy in the hotel pool!
Sunday was spent viewing the Liberty Bell:
And, Carpenter's Hall (where the first Continental Congress met):
And, of course, Independence Hall:
We decided that we couldn't just drag the kids around historical sites, in the sun and heat, for two days. We decided to drive across the great Amish/Pennsylvania countryside over to Hershey Park. We spent Sunday evening and Monday there.
We had a great time riding amusement park-like rides, riding roller coasters, and playing arcade games. We also went into Chocolate World where we learned how chocolate is made. It was followed up with ice cream, and then a good, long ride home!

Oooo the kids have been dying to go to Hershey Town, PA. since they saw a thing about it on the Travel Channel. Blake is reading a book by Carole Marsh that is a mystery that takes place there...teaching them about the place as they tell the story. I loved, in my single days, when I took a trip and toured all the Philadelphia places you went to this weekend. Can't wait to make the trip with the kids when they are a little older.
