Labor Day Weekend

The weather all weekend was gorgeous.  It was around 80 degrees with a breeze.  Labor Day weekend ended up being a great time to be out and fulfilling our plans.

Friday:
Started the morning off with Parker going to the bathroom on the toilet, McKenna coming in a picking up his underwear and promptly dropping them in the toilet, with Parker still there.  He was highly traumatized until mom assured him that the underwear could be washed in the wash-machine.  We switched lunch and dessert today, too.  We met some great friends at Cold Stone Creamery.  They used to be in our ward at church, but are in a new one that was created.  Their oldest daughter was in the same school class as Allison last year, too.  They also have four kids.  Later, right before dinner, everyone went out to play.  Allison forgot to put her helmet on to ride her bike (which is uncharacteristic of her) and managed to lose her balance, and fall, and hit her head on the sidewalk.  This provided her with a trip to the emergency room for eight stitches and a permanent splint for her thumb to "rest".

Somehow, she managed to get to go out to a Thai Restaurant for dinner with mom and dad at and after bedtime while Aunt Cari "held down the fort" at home...

Saturday:

Had a lazy morning and dad got to read a little bit of his homework.  Had lunch at the house and headed into D.C.  We saw the National Geographic Museum.  It has two parts, the first part has two revolving galleries.  Right now it showcases the inventions of Leonardo DaVinci and the other showcases housing, water purification, and solar lighting techniques and options for those who are less priviledged that us in the U.S.  The other part is a gallery of National Geographic photos.  It was fun to see where some of them were taken.

We had pizza and Subway for dinner, outside on the sidewalks of D.C. and headed over to the Lincoln Memorial.  The summer tourists are gone and the weather is nice, making it a very pleasant site.

Sunday:

The great weather continued.  We went on a walk up to the school and played on the playground after church.

Monday:

We went to the Fairfax-Station Railroad Museum.  Inside they have several model trains set up.  Parker was most fascinated with the one that was built out of Legos.  (Yes, it worked.)

Outside they have a real train caboose to climb in, over, and about.  Check out Parker's smile sitting up high and looking out the window!

We had a picnic lunch here, too.  We continued on to the National Zoo, starting at the bottom this time.  We always start at the top and never see everything at the end...  The kids enjoyed the Kid Farm, Amazonia, the lions and tigers...and the ice cream.  We finished up the day with Baja Fresh for dinner and home to get ready for the first day of school.
