A & Ms First Day of School

Allison and Madison just got on the bus for their first day of sixth and third grade. Here are pictures outside this (cloudy, rainy) morning:

Here they are again a few days earlier on Open House (where they got to drop off their school supplies and meet their teachers). Allison was very, very excited about her teacher...Madison was okay, not much of an opinion. We've heard really, really great things about both...but it helps that we have a school that all the teachers are great and spoken highly of. Both are in the same school, 6th grade is still in the elementary here. It should be a fun year!

Their thoughts on the first day:
Allison: My teacher is funny. I don't have any homework, well, sort of.
Madison: (with great excitement) I don't have any homework!

Unknown said...: Oh Blake would be sooo excited to have a male teacher, however he ended up with Mrs. Schnieder because she's the certified Gifted teacher for 4th grade. Can't believe that Allison is in middle school! Holy cow! Keep us posted on how that goes...not looking forward to those years! :); September 6, 2011 at 8:48 PM

Jeremy earned his Bachelor's in Criminal Justice and Sarah earned hers in Child and Family Development. Jeremy spent a total of 13 years with the Army. Jeremy recently graduated with a Master's in International Affairs from American University. He speaks Spanish and Malay. He goes to work at his "dream job" which he's been with for almost 8 years. Sarah taught preschool after her degree and then became a "stay-at-home" mom (yeah, right!). She is the CEO, CFO, COO, CIO, etc. of everything related to the family. This is our ninth house (ID, MO, KY, TX, KY, CA, GA, VA, SG). We are now six: Jeremy, Sarah, Allison, Madison, Parker, and McKenna. We stay busy in Singapore! We like to soak up all the adventures of the places around us and deal with the ones we are given!

When I Die...

"I don't want to drive up to the pearly gates in a shiny sports car, wearing beautifully tailored clothes, my hair expertly coiffed, and with long, perfectly manicured fingernails. I want to drive up in a station wagon that has mud on the wheels from taking kids to scout camp. I want to be there with grass stains on my shoes from mowing Sister Scheneck's lawn. I want to be there with a smudge of peanut butter on my shirt from making sandwiches for a sick neighbor's children. I want to be there with a little dirt under my fingernails from helping to weed someone's garden. I want to be there with children's sticky kisses on my cheeks and tears of a friend on my shoulder. I want the Lord to know that I was really here and that I really lived."
