Singapore Flyer

We arrived very late Wednesday night and were in our hotel by midnight.  We spent some time getting unpacked and checking out our new "home."  By 3 a.m. the kids were ready to crash.  Since they'd done some sleeping on both planes, and Singapore is exactly 12 hours opposite of Washington, D.C., and therefore all schedules were messed up,  we were up within about 5-6 hours.  We had a low-key day of checking out the mall attached to our apartments, visiting a friend from Georgia in her apartment, and getting some energy out at the pool.

On Friday, Jeremy went into work for a few hours, to get some paperwork done, and meet a few people.  Once he'd finished all of that, we spent the afternoon and evening downtown doing a little sightseeing.  We first took one of the "Duck Tours"...the road/water combo vehicles.  I think I'll come back and name all the buildings in separate posts as we visit them each.  The day was cloudy, so maybe the later pictures will be better and more vibrant.  McKenna was the only one whose sleep cycle is still just a few hours off.

We then rode the Sinapore Flyer.  It is a ferris wheel with enclosed pods.  They claim it is taller the the London Eye.  It was definitely tall and gave an overwhelming view of the endless tall apartment buildings.

We then had dinner at a "rebuilt" traditional hawker street.  Each hawker stall/station is its own little miniature restaurant, walk-up style.  It would only sell a few items.  Think of it like a food court, where if you want chicken you go to one place, drinks another, desserts another, etc.  And, you pay each vendor separately.  Hawker stations can be found singularly around the area, similar to an American food truck in a downtown area.  These are very cheap and Singapore is known for them.

Cost for the Singapore Flyer and Duck vehicle tour:  about $200 US dollars...a bit pricey?
